SAN DIEGO–Deputies doing a security check at the San Diego Central Jail found an inmate unresponsive in his cell last week.

Despite lifesaving efforts performed by deputies and medical staff, the man died.  There was no initial evidence of foul play or a suicide at the scene.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives will investigate the death, according to the Sheriff’s department.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death as well as positively identify the decedent and notify next of kin.
