El Cajon, CA–An elderly pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking at night in El Cajon on Tuesday, El Cajon Police said. 

El Cajon police and paramedics responded to a call around 6:50 p.m. of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle at 724 Fletcher Parkway. 

Officers arrived and found a man unconscious in the roadway. He was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the 89-year-old victim is known, however, his name is being withheld pending notification of family, El Cajon Police Lt. Darrin Forster stated in a release.

The driver of the 2014 Kia Optima that struck the man remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. No alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the collision, police said.

El Cajon police advise the public who walk at night to obey all traffic control devices, only cross the street at designated, controlled intersections, and wear bright or light-colored clothing for visibility.
