SANTEE–A driver and his passenger were arrested after they led California Highway Patrol officers and Sheriff’s deputies on a traffic pursuit in east county.

Just before 4:30 p.m. on January 15, Sheriff’s deputies from Alpine, Lakeside, and Santee assisted the CHP with a traffic pursuit.

The driver was wanted for speeding and was driving westbound Interstate 8 through Alpine. The driver exited the freeway in Lakeside and drove on surface streets until he entered Santee. After the pursuit entered Santee, CHP officers decided to discontinue their units. A deputy was able to deploy a spike strip and deflate the pursued vehicle’s front and rear driver side tires. The vehicle came to a stop at Cuyamaca Street and River Park Drive.

Deputies conducted a hot stop and the driver and solo occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody. The vehicle had no license plates on it, and a check of the VIN revealed it was a stolen vehicle. CHP officers arrived and took custody of the driver.
