OCEANSIDE–The life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther was remembered at a community prayer breakfast held at the QLN Conference Center in Oceanside.

Oceanside city officials, educators, religious and civic leaders were among the 200 who attended the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer breakfast.

The event featured remarks by members of the North County NAACP, a dance presentation by Shakira Robinson, and a keynote address by NAACP president emeritus Robert Howard.

Oceanside Deputy Mayor Chuck Lowery and Neighborhood Services Director Margery Pierce presented the City of Oceanside MLK Community Service Award to longtime community volunteer, Larry Hatter.

The award is given to a resident of Oceanside or Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton who exemplifies the ideals and teachings of Dr. King, Jr.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast was hosted by the North County NAACP, MiraCosta College, and the City of Oceanside.
