SAN DIEGO–Authorities pursued a driver after he failed to yield to police at a traffic stop Saturday, and collided with a vehicle in east county.

The driver, 34-year-old Joshua Furister, was arrested and charged with felony reckless evading arrest and reckless driving. He booked into custody after being treated at the hospital.

Just before 11 a.m., deputies from the Sheriff’s Rural Law Enforcement Division attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a green Geo Metro for an observed traffic violation in the 1400 block of State Route 94. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield and quickly sped away westbound on State Route 94. The vehicle began to pass other vehicles across the double yellow lines and drove into oncoming traffic. A traffic pursuit was initiated which traveled into the Rancho San Diego area. As the driver of the Geo Metro approached the intersection of Jamacha Road and Brabham Street, he drove through a red light and collided with a black minivan. The collision resulted in injuries to both occupants of the Geo Metro and the single occupant of the minivan. All three were transported to an area hospital to be treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into the collision. The Sheriff’s Department will be conducting an investigation into charges against the driver.
