San Diego, CA–In a unanimous decision during Tuesday’s board meeting, the County Board of Supervisors reaffirmed its commitment to leadership continuity by selecting Supervisor Nora Vargas as the chairwoman for the upcoming year.

Chairwoman Vargas, who previously held the position in the last year, is set to once again steer the county’s affairs as the primary voice representing its diverse population.

Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer was reelected as vice chair, while Supervisor Joel Anderson secured the position of chair pro tempore, ensuring a seasoned and familiar team at the helm.

In expressing gratitude for the support from her colleagues, Chairwoman Vargas took a moment to reflect on the Board’s accomplishments over the past year. Notably, the Board successfully passed a $8.1 billion budget, addressing crucial issues and upholding essential county services.

Chairwoman Vargas, recognizing the challenges ahead due to tightening budgets across the state, emphasized the importance of resource diligence. She stressed the Board’s commitment to prioritizing the health and safety of residents, as well as supporting local businesses to ensure their flourishing amidst economic uncertainties.

“The work ahead will not be easy, but I have no doubt that with compassionate, deliberate work and a collaborative spirit, we’re going to be able to once again move the county forward and our communities forward,” Chairwoman Vargas said.

After the chairwoman’s selection, the board moved to appoint members to various boards, commissions, and committees throughout the region, showcasing the continued dedication to effective local governance.
