San Diego, CA–The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to help reduce alcohol-related crime and harm in communities throughout San Diego County.
The grant is one of nearly 50 awarded statewide to local law enforcement agencies through ABC’s Alcohol Policing Partnership program.
The ABC program brings together local law enforcement officers and ABC agents to address alcohol-related problems. Agents provide specialized knowledge of California’s alcoholic beverage laws and work with local agencies on enforcement and prevention efforts.
According to ABC, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office will use the grant funding to support enforcement efforts targeting the illegal sale of alcoholic beverages to minors and obviously intoxicated patrons.
The funding will also help address illegal solicitation of alcohol and other criminal activity associated with alcohol establishments, including the sale and possession of illegal drugs.
ABC said the APP Program has provided more than $40 million in funding to local law enforcement agencies throughout the state since its creation in 1995.
The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is responsible for regulating alcoholic beverages in the state. Its mission is to promote public safety and provide service to Californians through licensing, education and enforcement.
ABC operates under the California Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency.
