LEMON GROVE–The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office released the identity of a woman allegedly killed by her husband in a domestic violence assault at their home in Lemon Grove.
Homicide detectives identified the victim as 30-year-old Rhona Barcelon. The Medical Examiner’s Office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of her death.
According to investigators, the woman’s husband, 31-year-old Jay Barcelon, stabbed her while inside their residence. He also sustained injuries during the altercation. On Saturday, authorities arrested and charged him for one count of murder.
On April 16, Sheriff’s deputies responded at 7:30 p.m. to 2200 Dain Court in Lemon Grove for a domestic incident with a male and a female reportedly arguing. When deputies arrived, they heard screaming inside the residence and forced entry when nobody answered the door. Inside, deputies found a man and woman. Both had been stabbed.
The woman was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. But her injuries sustained in the assault were significant and she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Her husband was transported to a local area hospital, underwent surgery, and is currently stable and expected to survive.
