Authorities investigate the suspicious death of a female passenger in a traffic collision

SAN MARCOS–Authorities conducting a traffic collision in San Marcos Friday found an unidentified female passenger deceased in the back seat with trauma to her body. 

At approximately 4:15 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a call of a traffic collision at the intersection of W. San Marcos Blvd. and S. Rancho Sante Fe Rd. in San Marcos. 

While investigating the incident deputies located the victim. Paramedics were called to the scene, but they pronounced the woman deceased. Sheriff’s deputies detained the driver of the vehicle. 

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will notify the next of kin and perform an autopsy to determine the female’s cause and manner of death. 

The Sheriff’s department’s homicide unit is investigating the incident.
