SAN DIEGO–The San Diego LGBT Community Center has announced that the 28th annual AIDS Walk/Run San Diego will take place on September 30 in San Diego.
The Center produces AIDS Walk/Run, the largest HIV/AIDS fundraiser in San Diego county.
In addition, that evening the annual Red Dress Party San Diego will take place at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Proceeds from the Red Dress Party will be directed to the San Diego HIV Funding Collaborative, a project of the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation.
The AIDS Walk/Run benefits HIV services and prevention programs at The Center, and has also supported the work of several local agencies, including Being Alive, Christie’s Place, Family Health Centers, Fraternity House, Mama’s Kitchen, North County LGBTQ Resource Center, Pozabilities, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, San Diego Youth Services, San Ysidro Health Center, Stepping Stone Strength for the Journey, The arcHIVe Project, Townspeople, UCSD Mother Child and Adolescent HIV Program and the Vista Community Clinic.
Registration is now open for the 5K Walk and 5K Run at www.aidswalksd.org. The route will start and end at Normal and Harvey Milk streets, in the heart of Hillcrest.
“We excited to kick off a full day of activities for San Diegans to come together to raise awareness about HIV, reduce the stigma associated with the disease and raise much-needed funds for our local HIV service organizations,” said Ian Johnson, The Center’s Director of Development. “The Center and AIDS Walk are proud to be part of the Hillcrest community, and we hope everyone will help us collectively ‘Paint Hillcrest Red’ on September 30th.”
“The Red Dress Party is a whimsical and fun fundraiser where everyone is encouraged to be brave and let loose while making an impact on local HIV organizations,” said Marvin Hanashiro, co-founder of San Diego’s Red Dress Party. “Attendees are asked to wear a red dress – no matter their gender identity or sexual orientation. This helps send a powerful message of solidarity and commitment to eliminating the stigma still associated with HIV”.”
In addition, there will be HIV awareness and fund raising events in Hillcrest at Rich’s San Diego and all MOs Universe locations, including Urban Mo’s, Baja Betty’s, Gossip Grill and the Hillcrest Brewing Company.
