USTA Hard Court Championships set for La Jolla

By SDCN Staff

La Jolla, CA–The United States Tennis Association’s National 40 Hard Court Championships are scheduled for December 1 through December 7 at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, officials announced.

The tournament will also feature a national championship for the Father/Son and Grandfather/Grandson doubles divisions.

Tournament competition is slated for Men and Women in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events for players 40 and over (players must reach or exceed the age of 40 at any time during the current calendar year to be eligible). The USTA National Father/Son and Grandfather/Grandson Hard Court Doubles Championships are open to players of all ages, making them truly “Open Level” events.

Tournament matches are scheduled daily, with the finals taking place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

“We are expecting a very strong player field for what has become one of the most exciting tennis weeks in the country,” said Bill Kellogg, Tournament Director and President of La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. “Competitors will include former touring pros and will be coming from across the United States, and even internationally, to play for these prestigious titles.”

Schedules and match times for individual events will be determined by the number of entries. Men’s first-round singles and doubles matches are expected to begin on December 1.

Women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles are expected to get underway on December 2. Father/Son and Grandfather/Grandson events will start on December 5.

Draws will be available the week of November 27 through La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club’s webpage. Prize money and USTA Gold, Silver, and Bronze balls will be awarded to the first, second, and third-place finishers in all events.

La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club welcomes tennis spectators to the tournament with free admission. On-site parking is available for a nominal fee. The Club is located at 2000 Spindrift Drive in La Jolla.

The USTA National 40 Hard Court Championships are part of the International Tennis Federation’s World Tennis Masters Tour. The Masters Tour features individual and team singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events for each five-year age increment from 30 and over to 90 and over. Approximately 27,500 players in that age group worldwide compete in Masters Tour events each year.
