Seoul, South Korea–President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller announced the San Diego Padres’ finalized 26-man roster for the Seoul Series, marking the beginning of their 2024 campaign.
The team has made several key additions and adjustments to their lineup, aiming for a strong start to the season.
In a strategic move, the Padres have selected the contracts of outfielder Jackson Merrill and infielders Graham Pauley and Tyler Wade, bolstering their offensive options. Concurrently, catcher Brett Sullivan and right-handed pitcher Woo Suk-Go have been optioned to Triple-A El Paso, reflecting the team’s focus on balancing experience with emerging talent. With these adjustments, the Padres’ 40-man roster now stands at 39 players.
Unfortunately, the Padres have faced setbacks with right-handed pitchers Glenn Otto and Luis Patiño, both placed on the 15-day Injured List due to right teres major strain and right elbow inflammation, respectively. Additionally, infielder Tucupita Marcano has been placed on the 10-day IL following right knee/ACL surgery.
To further fortify their roster, the Padres have designated RHPs Pedro Avila, Dylan Cease, and Matt Waldron as Seoul Series Extras, ensuring depth and flexibility in their pitching lineup.
The Padres’ Opening Day roster boasts a balanced mix of talent, featuring nine right-handed pitchers, four left-handers, two catchers, seven infielders, and four outfielders. The pitching lineup includes notable names such as Jhony Brito, Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, and Randy Vásquez, providing a solid foundation for the team’s defense.
The Padres will kick off their 2024 season on March 20 at the Gocheok Skydome in Seoul, South Korea, facing off against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The highly anticipated game is scheduled to start at 7:07 p.m. KST (Korean Standard Time) and 3:07 a.m. PST, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
For Padres fans around the world, the 2024 season promises to be one filled with thrilling moments and fierce competition as the team sets its sights on achieving greatness on the diamond.
