OCEANSIDE–The North San Diego County NAACP Youth and College Division will honor historical black colleges and universities at their 3rd annual Black History celebration on Saturday.
This year’s event will be virtual due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, according to event organizers.
The program will feature remarks by students from the NAACP Youth Council, an awards presentation, and a keynote address by attorney Dante Pride, who represented La Mesa protester Leslie Furcron, who was shot with a beanbag during the May 2020 riots in La Mesa.
The council’s youths will also speak on the benefits of higher education at a historic Black college and university. Some will share their personal experiences attending one of the colleges.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 20. Viewers can register to view the event.
