Kraft Heinz recalls turkey bacon over Listeria risk

By SDCN Staff

Washington, D.C. – Kraft Heinz Foods Company has issued a nationwide recall of approximately 367,812 pounds of fully cooked turkey bacon products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, federal officials announced Wednesday.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the affected products were produced between April 24 and June 11, 2025. The recall includes several varieties of Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Original, packaged in different sizes and distributed to retail locations across the U.S., as well as to the British Virgin Islands and Hong Kong.

The recalled products include:

  • 12-oz. vacuum-sealed packages with UPC 071871548601, “use by” dates from July 18, 2025, to August 2, 2025, and lot code RS40
  • 36-oz. packages (containing three 12-oz. packs) with UPC 071871548748, “use by” dates from July 23, 2025, to September 4, 2025, and lot codes RS19, RS40, or RS42
  • 48-oz. packages (containing four 12-oz. packs) with UPC 071871548793, “use by” dates from July 18, 2025, to September 4, 2025, and lot codes RS19, RS40, or RS42

All products bear the USDA mark of inspection on the front label.

The contamination was identified during routine testing by the company, which found potential Listeria presence in the product. So far, there have been no confirmed reports of illness associated with the recalled items.

Listeria monocytogenes is a harmful bacterium that can cause listeriosis, a serious infection especially dangerous for older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women. Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, headache, confusion, and gastrointestinal issues. Pregnant women may suffer miscarriages, stillbirths, or life-threatening infections in newborns.

FSIS urges consumers not to eat the recalled turkey bacon and to either discard it or return it to the place of purchase. The agency is conducting effectiveness checks to ensure the recalled products are removed from store shelves.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact the Kraft Heinz consumer hotline at 1-800-280-7185 or email consumerrelations@kraftheinz.com. For additional recall updates, visit www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
