Julián Castro

San Antonio, TX–Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro announced that in addition to refusing contributions from PACs, corporations, and lobbyists, he will also refuse contributions from oil, gas, and coal industry executives.

In a tweet posted Thursday afternoon, Castro said, “Since day one, my campaign refused contributions from PACs, corporations, and lobbyists. Today I announced we’re also refusing contributions from oil, gas, and coal executives—so you know my priorities are with the health of our families, climate and democracy.”

In signing the pledge, the former Obama Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and mayor of San Antonio committed his campaign to not knowingly accept any contributions over $200 from the PACs, lobbyists, or SEC-named executives of fossil fuel companies — companies whose primary business is the extraction, processing, distribution, or sale of oil, gas, or coal.
