Lansing, MI–The Need to Impeach community and its founder, billionaire investor, Tom Steyer, Monday announced a $10 million “Need to Vote” initiative aimed at mobilizing the 5.5 million members to vote on November 6 and help Democrats win back the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Midterm elections are about turning out your votes and making a statement,” said Steyer. “We are going to invest in the American people and our democracy. That starts with more than 5.5 million people voting like never before. Our goal is to win and to send a message to both Congress and Donald Trump that no one is above the law.”
The Need to Vote initiative includes hiring dozens of on-the-ground volunteer coordinators in key districts across the country to engage local Need to Impeach votes; mobilizing voters through both digital and letter writing campaigns; airing national and local TV ads through Election Day; organizing house parties; and Steyer hosting events across the country.
Steyer, who made the announcement via an online video conference from Lansing, Michigan—located in a key Congressional district—added: “On average, we have 10,000 supporters in the country’s most competitive House districts. We expect many of these races will be decided by a few thousand, if not hundreds, of votes. That means that if our movement shows up in November, we can change who controls the House.”
“Removing Donald Trump from office remains our top priority. The next step in that process is winning back the House and showing all Trump enablers in office that they will pay a price for their allegiance to this lawless president,” Need to Impeach Lead Strategist Kevin Mack said. “Make no mistake, we will not rest until Trump is removed from power. Elected Republicans have normalized Trump’s lawless behavior, and they will pay a price at the polls this year for their complicity. We guarantee it.”
Steyer also founded and leads the largest progressive political operation in the country. Founded in 2013, NextGen America is running the largest operation in history to turn out the youth vote in the 2018 midterms. On October 20, 2017, Steyer launched the Need to Impeach campaign.
With more than 5.5 million community members, the list has become a digital army that several political strategists call one of the most powerful political tools in the Democratic Party.
