SACRAMENTO–Governor Gavin Newsom Thursday issued a stay at home executive order to protect the health and well-being of all 40 million Californians and to establish consistency across the state in order to slow the spread of COVID-19.
The order goes into effect Thursday evening until further notice.
State public health officials ordered all individuals living in the state to stay home or at their place of residence, except as needed to maintain continuity of operation of the federal critical infrastructure sectors.
“We need to bend the curve in the state of CA. In order to do that we need to recognize the reality,” Gov. Newsom said at a press conference. “We are confident that the people in the state of California will abide by it. They will do the right thing.”
Essential services will remain open such as: Gas stations, pharmacies, grocery stores, farmers markets, food banks, convenience stores, take-out and delivery restaurants, banks, and laundromats/laundry services.
State and local government functions will also remain open, including law enforcement and offices that provide government programs and services.
Businesses such as dine-in restaurants, bars and nightclubs, entertainment venues, gyms and fitness studios, public events and gatherings, and convention centers.
