Sugar Foods is recalling its Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style in 3.5-ounce pouches due to an undeclared wheat allergen, the U.S. Drug and Food Administration reports.
The recall affects products with the UPC 7 87359 17504 6 and a Best By Date of June 20, 2025.
The issue was discovered on November 19, when a consumer reported that the pouches labeled as Tortilla Strips contained Crispy Onions instead. The Crispy Onions include wheat, which is not declared on the packaging. Wheat can cause serious or life-threatening allergic reactions in individuals with a wheat allergy or sensitivity. Fortunately, no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported so far.
The affected product was distributed between September 30 and November 11, and sold in stand-up resealable pouches. It was shipped to distribution centers in the following states:
Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington.
Consumers can identify the affected product by the Best By Date printed on the back of the pouch above the UPC code.
Anyone who has purchased these items is encouraged to return them to the store of purchase for a full refund or discard them. For further questions, consumers can contact Sugar Foods’ Consumer Care Department at Customerfeedback@sugarfoods.com or call (332) 240-6676 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
