ESCONDIDO–Authorities say two juveniles were allegedly responsible for a structure fire that broke out at a church in Escondido, the Escondido police department said Sunday.
Police and firefighters received a report of the fire in the area of 7th Escondido Blvd. Officers found a fire at the Iglesias Bautista Fundamental Church at 221 W 7th Avenue.
The building was evacuated, as church services had just concluded, and confirmed that the fire was located in a second floor classroom. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the room and had the fire controlled within 8 minutes.
During the investigation it was determined that the two juveniles started the fire with a lighter that they found in the classroom.
There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
