San Marcos, CA–The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department released the identity of two men killed in a shooting incident last week in San Marcos.
The 19-year-old male has been identified as Jesus Garcia of San Marcos. He was pronounced dead by hospital staff the night of the incident.
The 20-year-old male that was in critical condition has been identified as Nicholas Tiefer of Vista. While still in the hospital, he was pronounced dead on January 7.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, Garcia and Tiefer were friends. The motivation and circumstances are still under investigation.
On January 4, just after 1:30 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon at the 1300 block of West Borden Road. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a man with gunshot wounds to his upper torso on the ground near a park entrance.
Deputies located another man in the passenger seat of a nearby vehicle with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his neck.
Fire Department medical personnel transported both men to an area hospital for treatment.
