Oceanside, CA–Two people were injured when a car crashed into a police vehicle in Oceanside Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 9:14 a.m. at the intersection of Mission Avenue and Roymar Road. Oceanside Police Department officers responded to reports of a collision involving one of their vehicles.
A 60-year-old Oceanside resident was driving a white Toyota Corolla westbound on Mission Avenue. As the driver approached a red light at Roymar Road, they bypassed stopped vehicles by moving into the bicycle lane and proceeded through the intersection despite the solid red light.
At the same time, an Oceanside Police officer in a marked vehicle was making a left turn on a green arrow. The Corolla collided with the front of the police vehicle in the intersection.
The driver of the Corolla was taken to Scripps La Jolla with moderate injuries and is expected to recover. It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
The officer was treated for minor injuries at Tri-City Medical Center and has been released.
The Oceanside Police Department is investigating the incident.
Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact Officer Kevin Lissner at (760) 435-4651.
