OCEANSIDE–The North County Transit District (NCTD) has launched a year-long community outreach program focused on public transit safety awareness.
The NCTD Transit Enforcement Division staff will be setting up informational booths at community events throughout North County to encourage the public to use public transit and to offer safety tips for bus and train rides.
North County residents who enjoy attending local Farmers Markets, Craft Fairs, running events, and sports events like the Chargers, Padres and Del Mar races, will be seeing the NCTD pop-up tent with NCTD staff sharing information about public transit services and public transit safety tips. A major goal of this community outreach effort is to support the District’s efforts to reduce preventable and non-preventable accidents and to increase overall safety performance on NCTD public transit services.
The first community event of the year for this outreach program will be at the Carlsbad State Street Farmers Market January 20 from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. and April 20 from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m.
The public is encouraged to stop by the NCTD booth at community events to get information about bus and train services and to learn more about how to ride safely on public transit. The NCTD information booth will also offer rail safety information for the public from Operation Lifesaver. Informational materials will be available about vehicle and pedestrian safety around rail lines and crossings and passenger rail and transit safety.
“At NCTD, safety is our #1 priority every day of the year for all of our transit services,” said Matthew Tucker, NCTD Executive Director. “Through this outreach campaign we will be making an extra effort to educate the public to become more alert and aware in their daily activities to include while using public transit and around rail lines and rail crossings.”
