San Diego, CA–The Sheriff’s Child Abuse Unit wants the public’s help in finding additional victims of a swim instructor arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing a student.
On September 28, a 7-year-old child told his mother that his swim instructor, Nicholas Piazza, had sexually assaulted him on two separate occasions. The alleged incidents happened during private swim lessons between September 7 and September 25 in Rancho Santa Fe.
The child’s mother contacted Child Welfare Services on September 28 and the case was immediately referred to the Sheriff’s Child Abuse Unit.
On September 29, Piazza was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on numerous charges, including performing lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, committing a felony while on bail, and contempt of court.
California laws require the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department to hold the information of child abuse victims in the strictest of confidence. It is also the policy of the Sheriff’s Department not to release identifying information about minor victims.
