SAN DIEGO — San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox’s Chief of Staff, Pam O’Neil will be retiring after 33 years of service to the County.
O’Neil served 23 of those years as the supervisor’s chief of staff and policy advisor. She came to the County with a professional background in government, public policy, and non-profit management. O’Neil’s strategic advice has been integral to Cox’s policy achievements, especially in the areas of public safety and children’s issues. Her last day in office will be January 23, 2018.
“Since day one, Pam has been more than a Chief of Staff,” Supervisor Cox said. “She has mentored executives, board aides and line staff in just about every department, and has always had the County’s best interest at heart. Her keen intellect on policy and politics has been an immeasurable asset to District 1 – and to the entire board floor.”
Supervisor Cox’s long-time policy advisor Danny Melgoza will assume the role of chief of staff for Cox, whose term runs through 2020. Melgoza has served District 1 for the last 10 years in a variety of roles, including Cox’s deputy chief of Staff and senior policy advisor.
“Although no one can ever ‘replace’ Pam, Danny has proven himself a natural fit for the role of chief,” Cox said. “He has no doubt learned from the best, but will also bring his own professional experience and aptitude to the job.”
“Pam and Danny have been actively working to ensure a smooth transition,” Cox added. “Our office is committed to maintaining the level of service and quality work that the residents of District 1 have known and expect from our staff.”
Supervisor Cox represents District 1, which includes communities in the southern portion of the City of San Diego, the cities of Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach and National City and the unincorporated communities of Bonita, Sunnyside and Lincoln Acres and East Otay Mesa.
