Man found dead from gunshot wounds

Lakeside, CA–The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting death of a man found lying in a street in East County on Tuesday, authorities said.

Deputies responded to a call of gunshots, and a man lying in the street in the 9700 block of Cactus Street at 3:10 p.m. in Lakeside. 

When deputies arrived at the location, they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies provided medical aid until they were relieved by fire department personnel and paramedics. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:25 p.m. The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Michael Anthony Johnson.

Sheriff’s homicide investigators are working to gather more information to determine the circumstances and motivation behind Johnson’s death. The investigation is ongoing. At this time, there is no confirmed suspect information.
