Lemon Grove, CA—A two-vehicle collision claimed the lives of two pedestrians as they crossed a street in Lemon Grove on Wednesday morning, authorities reported.
The incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. at the intersection of Buena Vista Avenue and Broadway.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, two vehicles collided at the intersection with such force that one vehicle was propelled into the path of the pedestrians.
Paramedics and deputies at the scene attempted lifesaving measures on the two pedestrians. Despite their efforts, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
The drivers of the vehicles involved were transported to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Sheriff’s deputies are actively investigating the cause of the collision. Video surveillance from nearby locations has been collected as part of the investigation. The intersection remained closed for several hours as the Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team examined the scene, reopening the area around 8 p.m.
Due to the severity of the collision, deputies were unable to conduct on-site DUI evaluations. However, both drivers voluntarily provided blood samples at the hospital, which will be tested for alcohol and drug presence.
The names of the deceased pedestrians have not been released pending notification of their families.
