VISTA–A 59-year-old pedestrian walking in downtown Vista was struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The collision occurred about 8:41 p.m. at the intersection of Civic Center Drive and South Santa Fe Avenue.

The pedestrian was walking westbound across Civic Center Drive, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Civic Center Drive. The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Palomar Medical Center. The 31-year old driver was not injured and remained on scene after the collision.  

Alcohol or drugs are not a factor in the collision, according to investigators.  

The Vista Traffic division is conducting the investigation.
