El Cajon, CA–A daring police chase unfolded in El Cajon Thursday as officers pursued three teens suspected of retail theft, authorities said.
The incident began when an individual alerted El Cajon police after witnessing what appeared to be a vehicle break-in followed by an earlier theft at Dick’s Sporting Goods, where over $1,000 in merchandise was stolen.
According to the El Cajon Police Department, officers quickly located the stolen vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the suspects accelerated, leading to a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, one of the suspects discarded a handgun from the moving vehicle, which was recovered by officers.
The pursuit came to an end when the stolen vehicle crashed into a dirt embankment while exiting the freeway. The three suspects fled the scene on foot. Despite a thorough search effort by the police, only two of the teenagers were apprehended.
The two arrested suspects, whose identities have not been disclosed, are facing charges related to the theft and the ensuing police chase. They were booked into Juvenile Hall, and the investigation is continuing for the third suspect.
