El Cajon, CA—A 35-year-old Lakeside man was arrested after a hit-and-run collision Wednesday night that left a 12-year-old boy seriously injured, El Cajon police said.
At about 8 p.m., officers responded to reports of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision in the 300 block of Ballantyne Street. When police and paramedics arrived, they found the child in the roadway suffering from major head trauma. The vehicle involved had fled the scene.
Paramedics transported the boy to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition, authorities said.
Traffic investigators examined debris left at the scene and determined the suspect vehicle was a BMW X5. Using Automated License Plate Reader data and other investigative tools, detectives identified a white BMW X5 that had been in the area at the time of the crash.
Officers later found the vehicle parked at a business in Lakeside and noted damage consistent with the collision. The driver, identified as Dani Korkis, 35, was arrested and booked into County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
