San Ysidro, CA–A female student was stabbed multiple times by a male classmate at San Ysidro High School on Wednesday morning, prompting a temporary campus lockdown, authorities said.
San Diego Police Department officers were dispatched at 9:14 a.m. after receiving reports of an assault on campus. Responding officers found the victim suffering from several stab wounds to her torso. She was treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.
School officials placed the campus on lockdown as officers searched for a male student identified as a person of interest. Using campus surveillance systems, police located the student on school grounds at approximately 11 a.m. He was taken into custody without incident. Officers also recovered the knife believed to have been used in the attack.
The lockdown was later downgraded to a secured-campus status. Police said no other students were injured and noted that the assault appears to have been an isolated incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
