Chula Vista, CA–The Chula Vista Police Department held a DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint in the 300 block of L Street from 6 p.m. to midnight on July 13, authorities said.
The checkpoint yielded significant results in the ongoing effort to promote road safety and reduce impaired driving incidents.
During the operation, 938 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, with officers screening 343. Four drivers underwent field sobriety tests, resulting in the arrest of two individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, six citations were issued to drivers who were either unlicensed or had suspended licenses, and three vehicles were impounded, stated Sergeant Anthony Molina, Public Information Officer for the Chula Vista Police Department.
DUI checkpoint locations are chosen based on areas with a high frequency of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary goal of these checkpoints is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the roads.
This checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
