Vista, CA–The Sheriff’s Department is investigating a deadly house fire that killed a woman, and her two animals in Vista Friday morning, authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. at a mobile home park located in the 700 block of Sycamore Avenue, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department stated in a release.
A member of the Sheriff’s Senior Volunteer Patrol first reported the fire after seeing smoke while on duty. Deputies from the Vista Sheriff’s Station, as well as firefighters with the Vista, San Marcos, and Carlsbad Fire Departments, responded to the scene.
Deputies arrived first and were directed to a mobile home by neighbors who said there was a woman still inside. Deputies broke a back window and a sliding glass door in an attempt to get inside. They were pushed back by the fire and heavy smoke. Firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze. They continued the search of the home and found a woman in a bedroom. Lifesaving measures were attempted by paramedics, but she did not survive her injuries.
A dog and a cat were also found dead inside the mobile home. There were no injuries to firefighters. A deputy suffered scrapes to his hand from breaking a window and was treated at the scene.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the woman, as well as determine the cause and manner of death once the family has been notified.
Sheriff’s Department detectives will investigate to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
