SAN DIEGO–Last week, SANDAG announced a call for projects for Cycle 11 of the Specialized Transportation Grant Program (STGP), a competitive process to award an estimated $7.2 million in funds to projects and programs that improve mobility options for seniors and individuals with disabilities in the region.
Eligible projects include, but are not limited to, purchase of accessible vans and buses, coordinated volunteer driver programs, shopping shuttle services, non-emergency medical trips, and transit travel training classes. Grant applications are due by 4 p.m. on October 30, 2020.
SANDAG will hold a virtual grant application workshop for potential applicants on Tuesday, September 1 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. where SANDAG staff will review call for projects material, program requirements, grant application procedures, and answer questions. The SANDAG STGP is funded by a mixture of local and federal funds which include the TransNet Senior Mini-Grant program and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5310 program. Since 2006, the SANDAG STGP has distributed funds under two former FTA programs: Job Access and Reverse Commute and New Freedom. To date, SANDAG has awarded more than $28 million in federal grant funds and $17.7 million in TransNet funds through ten competitive grant cycles to support more than 215 specialized transportation projects. SANDAG provides status updates on grantee performance on a quarterly basis to the Transportation Committee.
