San Diego, CA–The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office completed the autopsy of an inmate who died on Monday after suffering from medical distress in jail.
The inmate, identified as 38-year-old Jerrell Lacy of San Diego, died of “pulmonary thromboembolic due to deep venus thrombosis of the lower extremities.” The manner of death is natural, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
On Monday, just after 11 a.m., Lacy was seen by jail medical staff due to shortness of breath and chest pain. Jail medical staff determined the inmate needed to be transported to the hospital, for further evaluation. While Lacy was pending transfer to the hospital, he went into medical distress. Deputies administered CPR until paramedics arrived and transported him by ambulance to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
On August 9, 2021, Lacy was arrested by the San Diego police and booked into the San Diego Central Jail for auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, vehicle theft, driving under the influence of drugs, hit and run, grand theft, resisting an officer and probation violation.
