SAN DIEGO–San Diego Comic-Con International will go virtual for the second time this summer after organizers postponed in-person gathering at the San Diego Convention Center until 2022.

Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, San Diego Comic-Con organizers were concerned for the public’s health and safety.

Pop-culture fans can view panels and other events free online at Comic-Con@Home from July 23 to 25, organizers said in a post on their website.

Event organizers plan to launch a smaller in-person, three-day Comic-Con in November 2021 in San Diego. They are working on specific details as to attendance capacity, badge cost, and related information. Fans can check for details on the organization’s website at https://www.comic-con.org.

Comi-Con will return to the San Diego Convention Center July 20 to 24, 2022, according to event organizers.

Another 2021 show, WonderCon in Anaheim, will also be canceled. In its place, WonderCon@Home will be held as a free online event on March 26 and 27.

“It is the policy of the organization to continue to closely monitor information from local and national healthcare officials as it pertains to the COVID-19 pandemic. Never could we have imagined what the world experienced in 2020 and continues to experience today,” event organizers posted on their website. “While we are buoyed by the rollout of the vaccine and the growing number of individuals being inoculated, it appears that July will still be too early to safely hold an in-person event of the magnitude of Comic-Con.”

Individuals who have purchased badges that were rolled over to the 2021 show will have those badges automatically transferred to the 2022 event unless a refund is requested.

To submit a badge refund request, visit www.comic-con.org/cci/comic-con-cancellationrefund-policy.

Individuals can continue to visit their website, comic-con.org, for official updated information as it becomes available.
