San Diego, CA–Detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a woman found in a brush fire early Thursday morning in a Mission Bay Park neighborhood, police said.

San Diego Police Communications Center received a call at 2:53 a.m., from a concerned citizen regarding a brush fire that was burning along the north side of Friars Road west of Napa Street.

As officers were responding to the location, they received a report that there possibly was a body on the ground within the fire. After San Diego Fire Rescue Department personnel extinguished the fire, officers located a deceased female on the ground.

Due to the suspicious nature of the fire and the death of the victim, detectives from the San Diego Police Homicide Unit, and the Metro Arson Strike Team responded to the location to investigate the incident.

Due to the extensive damage from the fire, information about the woman’s identity or any possible injuries is very limited. Detectives say it is still very early in the investigation, and little is known about the cause of the fire and the circumstances leading up to her death.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
