San Diego, CA–A female pedestrian was struck and killed while walking in traffic lanes on the Interstate 8 freeway in San Diego early Thursday morning, authorities said.
At around 12:26 a.m., a woman was walking within the traffic lanes of eastbound I-8, east of the Presidio Park overcrossing when a silver Subaru sedan, driven by a 24-year-old man from San Diego, struck the woman. She suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver remained on the scene following the collision, CHP Officer Jesse Matias stated in a release.
Multiple lanes were closed during the investigation for several hours. The driver of the Subaru suffered minor injuries and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It is unknown if the woman was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A toxicology report is pending through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, CHP said.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision.
The name of the woman is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
