Vista, CA–A parolee is back in custody following a car chase in the North County on April 15, authorities said.

Richard Jaime Jr., 45 was booked into Vista Detention Facility on charges of felony evading, driving under the influence, and violating the conditions of his release.

The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. when someone called 9-1-1 about a man waving a knife at the intersection of Eucalyptus and South Santa Fe Avenues in Vista.

Nearby schools were placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution as deputies with the Vista Sheriff’s Station responded to the location. Deputies tried to contact Jaime, but he drove away in a car.

He led deputies on a slow-speed pursuit throughout the Vista for nearly 20 minutes. During the pursuit the man drove into the North County Regional Center, causing the courthouse to go into a temporary lockdown. Several spike strips were used, but Jaime kept going.

Eventually, he abandoned the car and ran away. Deputies immediately caught up with Jaime and took him into custody. The knife was recovered, and no injuries were reported.
