SAN DIEGO–A variety of lane and ramp closures will occur along State Route 15 (SR 15) from Monday through Thursday to allow crews to restripe the highway as part of the SR 15 Mid-City Centerline Rapid Transit Stations Project.
All northbound lanes will be closed Monday and Tuesday evenings from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Interstate 805 (I-805) and Interstate 8 (I-8). During this time, the northbound on- and off-ramps at University Avenue, El Cajon Boulevard, and Adams Avenue will be closed. Additionally, the northbound off-ramp to Camino del Rio South and northbound connectors from I-805 to SR 15 and SR 15 to I-8 will be closed.
Detour signs will be posted directing motorists traveling north on SR 15 to exit at I-805 north, then exit onto State Route 163 north, and then to northbound Interstate 15 (I-15).
All southbound SR 15 lanes will be closed Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. between I-8 and I-805. During this time, the southbound on- and off-ramps will be closed at Adams Avenue, El Cajon Boulevard, and University Avenue. Additionally, the southbound on-ramp at Camino del Rio South and southbound connectors from I-8 to SR 15 and SR 15 to I-805 will be closed.
Motorists traveling south on I-15 will be detoured to I-8, then southbound I-805, and then to southbound SR 15.
“This important overnight work is helping us provide Mid-City residents with a new safe, reliable and convenient transportation choice,” said SANDAG Chair and County Supervisor Ron Roberts. “The SR 15 Mid-City Centerline Rapid Transit Stations are a critical component of our growing Rapid network in the region.”
The $65 million project will build San Diego’s first freeway-level transit stations along SR 15 at El Cajon Boulevard and University Avenue. New 2.5-mile transit-only lanes are being constructed within the existing SR 15 median from just north of I-805 to just south of I-8. The SR 15 Mid-City Centerline Rapid Transit Stations Project is expected to be completed in early 2018.
