Oceanside police responded to a report of a robbery around 4:25 a.m. at the AM/PM convenience store located at 1990 Oceanside Boulevard.

Officers located an adult male employee at the location suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. No suspects were located in the immediate area, Public Information Officer Jennifer Atenza said in a news release.

Preliminary investigation revealed that two suspects described as Hispanic male adults approximately 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet, 10 inches tall with medium build entered the store and demanded cash from the register.

The first suspect wore a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black shoes and was armed with a black semi-auto handgun. The second suspect wore a gray New Balance hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and black shoes. The suspects entered the store and ordered the employee to remove the money from the register as the first suspect pointed a gun at him.

The employee attempted to chase the suspects out of the location armed with a stick when the first suspect shot him in the stomach. The suspects then left the location with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The incident is under investigation.
