Del Mar, CA–A woman is facing felony charges following a deadly car crash in Del Mar late Tuesday night, authorities said.
The incident occurred just before midnight on Tuesday in the 2000 block of Coast Boulevard, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.
Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene and discovered a 2019 Maserati Gran Turismo that had crashed into a tree and a parked Dodge Ram. A 62-year-old man, found in the passenger seat of the Maserati, was given life-saving measures at the scene before being rushed to the hospital by paramedics. He later succumbed to his injuries. No bystanders were hurt, and the parked Dodge Ram was unoccupied during the crash.
The County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to confirm the identity of the deceased passenger and will determine the cause and manner of death after notifying his family.
Initial investigations revealed that the Maserati was traveling north on Coast Boulevard when it veered off the road, hitting the parked Dodge Ram and colliding with a tree. The driver fled the scene but was later apprehended. She was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver will be booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility on charges including felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, and DUI-related offenses.
