Stabbing at San Marcos store injures two people

By Gina Yarbrough

San Marcos, CA–A physical altercation at a San Marcos store left two people injured Wednesday afternoon after a man allegedly attacked another with a knife, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. on the 1300 block of East Mission Road, where a group was shopping together. Two men in the group began arguing, and the dispute escalated when Edwin Mendoza, 20, allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man multiple times, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.

Deputies said a female companion tried to intervene and was also injured during the assault.

Firefighters from the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District, who were nearby, witnessed the attack and rushed to break it up. They detained Mendoza until deputies arrived and provided immediate medical aid to the victims.

Both victims were transported to the hospital. The male victim suffered life-threatening injuries, while the female victim’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Mendoza was booked into the Vista Detention Facility in connection with the attack.
