Oceanside, CA–A family of five, along with their three dogs and a cat, were displaced after a fire broke out in their Oceanside home on Friday afternoon, according to authorities.
The Oceanside Fire Department, with assistance from the Vista Fire Department, responded to a 5:22 p.m. emergency call reporting a fire at 4022 Olive Drive. A resident noticed smoke from the garage and immediately alerted authorities, the Oceanside Fire Department reported.
When firefighters arrived, they initiated an aggressive interior operation while another team searched the home to ensure no one was left inside. The family and their pets were quickly accounted for, though a cat was initially reported missing. During a secondary search, the cat was located and safely removed from the home, where medics treated it before being taken to a veterinarian for further evaluation.
According to fire officials, the fire began in the garage and spread through an open door into the hallway, bedroom, and attic before the firefighters’ arrival. Thick, pressurized smoke was seen from the attic vents, prompting firefighters to cut a large hole in the roof with chainsaws. This allowed the hot gasses to escape, preventing further spread and aiding in the containment of the fire.
The Red Cross was called to assist the displaced family, ensuring they had the necessary support during this challenging time.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is still underway.
The Oceanside Fire Department reminded residents of the importance of closing doors during a fire, which can help contain the blaze and protect lives and property until firefighters arrive.
