Oceanside, CA–A pedestrian walking on State Route 78 was fatally struck by a vehicle early Tuesday morning, California Highway Patrol said.
The California Highway Patrol reported that at around 1:25 a.m., a 59-year-old woman from Escondido was driving her Mercedes-Benz eastbound in lane number four of SR-78, west of El Camino Real, when she struck a 31-year-old man from Vista.
First responders arrived at the location and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will release his identity pending notification of next of kin.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated, and it is unclear if alcohol or drugs played a role.
