Oceanside, CA–A pedestrian was killed late Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle along State Route 76, the Oceanside Police Department confirmed.
Officers responded at 11:50 p.m. to a report of a major injury collision near the intersection of SR-76 and Benet Road.
Investigators said a white Toyota Corolla traveling eastbound on SR-76 collided with a pedestrian who was believed to be crossing the highway from south to north just east of the intersection.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The individual’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities determined the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation.
