Oceanside, CA–A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday evening near the intersection of Mission Avenue and Francesca Drive in Oceanside, authorities said.
Officers responded to the scene around 6:46 p.m. and found the man who had been hit by a black Chevrolet Tahoe traveling eastbound on Mission Avenue. Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency personnel, the Oceanside resident was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Oceanside Police Department, the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his family.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the circumstances of the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Traffic Investigator Ibrahim Serdah at (760) 435-4769.
