Oceanside, CA–A pedestrian crossing a road was fatally struck by a vehicle in Oceanside on Tuesday night, authorities said.
The Oceanside Police Department responded to reports of a major injury collision involving a gold Nissan Murano and a pedestrian just after 9 p.m. on Mission Avenue and Ocean Pointe.
According to investigators, the driver was traveling eastbound on Mission Avenue when he struck the pedestrian crossing the roadway approximately 100 yards west of the Ocean Pointe intersection.
The pedestrian, identified as a 45-year-old white male, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of the next of kin.
The driver of the Nissan Murano remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
According to police, the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and speed was determined not to be a factor in the collision.
Tragically, a second driver also struck the pedestrian in the roadway. Similar to the first driver, the individual stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
