Oceanside, CA–Investigators are searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a 24-year-old man along State Route 76 in Oceanside on Sunday, authorities said.
The victim, identified as Aaron Lee Keith, was discovered unresponsive on the shoulder of SR-76 near Singh Way, shortly before 11 a.m., in the city, according to the Oceanside Police Department.
Emergency crews from North County Fire responded to reports of a person down and pronounced Keith dead at the scene.
Investigators determined Keith had been struck by a vehicle whose driver fled before authorities arrived. They believe the collision occurred sometime between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday.
According to the Oceanside Police Department, no description of the suspect or vehicle has been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
The highway was shut down in both directions for several hours while investigators processed the scene and gathered evidence.
