Oceanside, CA–An Oceanside Police motorcycle officer was injured Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle near State Route 76, shortly after completing an escort for Vice President J.D. Vance, authorities said.

According to the Oceanside Police Department, the officer had just finished his security detail for Vance and was returning to police headquarters when the collision occurred around 9:43 a.m.

Police responded to the crash near the intersection of SR-76 and the northbound I-5 off-ramp, where the officer’s motorcycle collided with another vehicle. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the other vehicle’s driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Vice President Vance was in Oceanside over the weekend to attend a wedding with his wife, Usha, at the Seabird Resort.
