Fallbrook, CA–A nearly month-long search for a missing North County man has ended after authorities discovered his body inside a car submerged in a river in Bonsall, authorities said.
Isaiah Lowe, 21, was reported missing by his family on January 24 to the Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation. He was last seen on January 22, when his home surveillance video captured him driving away in his black Chevrolet Camaro with red stripes.
Sheriff’s deputies immediately entered Lowe into the missing person database and issued a bulletin to law enforcement agencies across Southern California. Authorities, including law enforcement partners in San Diego and Riverside Counties, continued searching for him.
On February 17, Lowe’s mother provided new information to the Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation, revealing that a GPS tracking device in his car had led her to State Route 76, just north of Ramona Drive in Bonsall. At the location, she noticed a damaged highway fence where the GPS signal had last transmitted, along with debris matching Lowe’s vehicle.
Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers and the Sheriff’s Reserves Dive Team responded to the scene and located Lowe’s car submerged in the San Luis Rey River, just south of State Route 76. Due to recent rainfall, the vehicle was fully underwater. As night fell, recovery efforts were postponed until the following day.
On February 18, authorities recovered the car from the river, finding a body inside that matched Lowe’s description. The California Highway Patrol and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene, with the Medical Examiner set to determine the official cause of death.
The Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation extended its condolences to Lowe’s family and loved ones.
